In 2019, Incatrekkers launched a reforestation program, planting native tree species in Andean communities and conservation areas such as Mantanay.

Natural forests in the Andes need a helping hand to recover and thrive. Our reforestation program focuses on native tree species, which are well suited to the region's ecosystem and vital for its long-term health.

Protecting biodiversity: Native trees create habitats for countless plant and animal species of the Andes.

Mitigating climate change: Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, so more forest cover helps in the fight against climate change.

Sustainable livelihoods: Local communities are involved in planting and caring for the trees, which gives them ownership of their environment and their future.

Preserving cultural heritage: The culture of the Andean communities is closely connected to their environment. Reforestation helps protect this heritage for future generations.

Mantanay: The Mantanay conservation area shows what reforestation can achieve: a once-degraded landscape is turning green again, and hikers can observe the return of wildlife.
