ITINERARY:

DAY 01: CUSCO-PALCOYO MOUNTAIN-CHECACUPE-CUSCO

At 4:00 in the morning, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Cusco and begin our scenic trip through the South Valley. We will eat breakfast on the way to the trailhead at Palcoyo, which is about 3.5 hours away. After breakfast, we hike 45 minutes uphill to the 4900-meter (16,076-foot) Palcoyo Pass. Three Rainbow Mountain Palcoyo peaks and Ausangate, the highest mountain in the Cusco region, may both be seen in stunning panoramas from this location. At the pass, we'll stay for about an hour, snapping photos, eating snacks, and soaking in the incredible views. Once we've had our fill of the view, we head back the way we came. We now depart in private transport for about an hour to the village of Checacupe, where we will have lunch and visit a little bridge. We take our private transportation back to your accommodation in Cusco (approximately a 2.5-hour drive) after spending some time to stroll across the bridge (30 minutes), take pictures, and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Time of departure: approximately 4:00 a.m.

You should arrive in Cusco between 5 and 5:30 p.m.

Distance walked: 5 km (3.1 miles).

Approximately 1.5 hours worth of walking.

      Please note
        What to bring

Here's a checklist of essential items to bring for your trek:

Backpack for your daypack: A comfortable and sturdy backpack to carry your personal belongings and essentials during the day.

Original passport (mandatory): Please ensure you have your original passport with you, as it is required for entry to certain areas during the trek.

International student identity card (ISIC): If you are eligible for a student discount, remember to bring your ISIC to avail the benefits.

Personal first-aid kit and necessary medications: It's advisable to carry a personal first-aid kit with any specific medications you may require during the trek.

Rain gear or rain poncho: It's important to be prepared for changing weather conditions. A rain jacket and pants, or a rain poncho, will keep you dry during rainy spells. Ponchos can be purchased in Cusco if needed.

Strong footwear: Opt for sturdy walking boots with ankle support for optimal comfort and stability during the trek.

One complete change of clothing: Pack a spare set of clothing, including a sweater, jacket or fleece, beanie, hat, and gloves for colder day.

Water bottles: Bring reusable water bottles such as metal or Nalgene-type bottles to stay hydrated throughout the trek.

Sunscreen and after-sun cream: Protect your skin from the sun's rays with sunscreen and keep it hydrated with after-sun cream.

Hat or cap: Shield yourself from the sun, rain, and cold with a hat or cap.

Snacks: While we provide comprehensive meals, it's always a good idea to have some snacks like dried fruit, biscuits, chocolate, or energy bars for extra sustenance during the trek.

Toilet paper and handkerchiefs: Carry toilet paper and handkerchiefs for personal hygiene.

Camera, films, and extra batteries: Capture the beautiful moments along the trek with your camera. Make sure to bring extra batteries as they may drain faster in cold weather.

Extra Peruvian soles: Keep some extra currency for purchasing drinks or in case of emergencies.

Walking poles (optional): If you prefer using walking poles, they can provide additional support.

By ensuring you have these essential items, you'll be well-prepared to fully enjoy your trekking experience.
