ITINERARY:

Day 1: Trekking with Llamas to Auroray Cocha

We will begin this remarkable adventure by picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at 5:30 a.m. Our private transportation will then take us through the awe-inspiring Sacred Valley of the Incas, renowned for its historical and natural significance. As we drive, you'll have the opportunity to witness the breathtaking landscapes that make this region truly special.

Our first stop will be in Urubamba, situated at an elevation of 2870 meters (9416 feet). Here, we will have a delicious breakfast and provide you with the opportunity to purchase any last-minute supplies you may need for the trek ahead. Fully prepared, we will continue our journey towards the enchanting Yanahuara-Pucara community, which rests at an elevation of 3300 meters (10826 feet). This is our starting point for the trekking adventure.

The trek begins with a gentle ascent through the picturesque Mantanay Valley, leading us towards the breathtaking Misky Uno at an elevation of 3650 meters (11,975 feet). Along the way, be prepared to be captivated by the awe-inspiring views of majestic mountains, adorned with native vegetation, including the stunning polylepis trees. The trail is adorned with the melodies of streams fed by cascading waterfalls.

As we venture further along the trail, you'll have the delightful experience of witnessing llamas and alpacas grazing peacefully, showcasing the true essence of the Andean highlands. The scenery will transport you to a world where rugged beauty meets tranquility, immersing you in the enchanting ambiance of the high Andes.

After reaching the first captivating lake, Yuraq Cocha, we will continue our ascent until we arrive at the mesmerizing Auroray Cocha, situated at an elevation of 4140 meters (13,615 feet). This stunning location will serve as our campsite for the night, providing you with the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of the Andean wilderness.

Day 2: Trekking with Llamas to Patacancha

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, our trek continues with a gradual ascent towards the Huayruruyoc pass, reaching an impressive altitude of 4300 meters (14,197 feet). As we ascend, be prepared to be mesmerized by the awe-inspiring views of the shimmering lake and the majestic mountains that envelop it. This panoramic view will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression.

From the pass, we will begin our descent, meandering along a path that leads us past a series of picturesque lakes. These waters are not only a feast for the eyes but also a haven for various bird species, offering a wonderful opportunity for observation and appreciation of the local wildlife.

Our lunch break will be at Puka Cocha Lake, where we will have a delicious meal amidst this stunning natural setting.

After a satisfying lunch, we will continue our trek towards the Patacancha community, nestled at an elevation of 3600 meters (11,811 feet). This community is home to native Quechua-speaking families who have preserved their ancestral traditions of agriculture and cattle pasturing. Immerse yourself in their way of life, gaining insights into their rich cultural heritage and experiencing firsthand the customs and practices that have been passed down through generations.

Day 3: Patacancha- Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

Following a nourishing breakfast, get ready for a truly immersive cultural experience as we delve into the daily lives and vibrant traditions of the local families. Immerse yourself in their warm hospitality and learn about their time-honored weaving techniques, gaining a deeper understanding of their rich cultural heritage. This interaction will provide you with a unique opportunity to connect with the locals on a personal level, fostering a meaningful exchange of knowledge and experiences.

After our enriching time in Patacancha, our private transportation will transport us to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there, we will board a comfortable train to Aguas Calientes, nestled at an altitude of 2040 meters (6,692 feet).

Upon arrival, you will have ample time to settle into your hotel and unwind from the day's adventures. You can also take advantage of this opportunity to explore the town at your leisure. In the evening, indulge in a delicious dinner, savoring the flavors of the region, and reflect on the incredible journey you have undertaken.

Day 4: Machu Picchu to Cusco

We woke up early this morning, eager to start the day's adventure. After enjoying a delightful breakfast at our hotel in Aguas Calientes, we embark on one of the first buses heading to the magnificent Machu Picchu. The early start is well worth it, as this is the quietest time of the day in Inca City, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in its tranquil ambiance. We'll have the opportunity to capture breathtaking photos and witness the enchanting sunrise over the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu.

Following our serene morning exploration, we gather for a guided tour of Machu Picchu, where an experienced guide will lead us through the intricate history and significance of this architectural wonder. You will have the chance to witness the most important buildings and temples, gaining insights into the fascinating Inca civilization that thrived in this mystical place.

Our tour of Machu Picchu concludes around 10:00 a.m. It's important to note that since 2021, the Peruvian government has implemented new rules, dividing entrance times into different slots throughout the day. Our tour is scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Circuits 1 and 2 are the best circuits to visit Machu Picchu, and we highly recommend booking in advance. If you wish to embark on additional hikes within Machu Picchu, such as Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, please ensure you purchase an extra ticket for these experiences.

Once you feel satisfied with your exploration of Machu Picchu, we will board a bus that will transport us back down to Aguas Calientes, where a delectable lunch awaits. Before departing Machu Picchu, make sure to confirm the meeting time and location in Aguas Calientes, where you will receive your train tickets for the journey back to Cusco. We will then board the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a comfortable private transportation transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

    Inflatable Sleeping Pad: Use the free inflated sleeping pad or air mattress we've provided to improve your quality of sleep.

    Duffel Bag: For your convenience, a dry bag is included to protect your overnight items from weather-related damage.

    Transportation: Enjoy private transportation to the Ollantaytambo train station at the end of the trek and from Cusco to the journey's beginning.

    Train Tickets: Take a picturesque train journey from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and return. After the ride, get dropped off at your Cusco hotel.

    Bus Tickets: Round trip bus between Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu on the fourth day.

    Accommodation: Enjoy a hotel stay in Aguas Calientes on the third night, sharing a room with another person. Upgrades can be provided upon request.

    Meals: Savor three meals a day on the trek: three breakfasts, three lunches, and three dinners. Please let us know about any particular dietary needs or vegetarian preferences during the briefing or during the booking process.

    Support Staff: Llamas and horsemen will be available to help you transport food, cooking supplies, and tents.

    Camping Equipment: Two people will share each capacious 4-person tent (Eureka Timberline SQ 4XT), which has plenty of space for backpacks. Each individual will receive a single Therma-rest inflatable sleeping pad in addition to a dining tent.

    Chef and Cooking Equipment: Throughout the trek, a professional chef will create delectable meals for you, and a specialized cooking tent will house all the cooking supplies.

    Hygiene and Water: Every morning and afternoon, warm water will be available for personal hygiene. Water that has been boiled and filtered will be accessible from the second day on. We reduce our influence on the environment by using biodegradable hand soaps.

    First Aid Kit: As part of our dedication to your safety, we include a complete first aid kit that includes an emergency oxygen bottle for the first and second days.

    Taxes and fees: We include all taxes and permit costs in our quotes, so there are no extra costs.

    Exclusions

      Travel Insurance: We strongly advise getting comprehensive travel insurance for the security of your vacation.

      Meals: The package does not include the first breakfast at Yanahura on the first day of the hike or the last meal in Aguas Calientes after seeing Machu Picchu.

      Sleeping bags: For an additional $25, sleeping bag rentals are offered if you don't already own one.

      Extra expenses: Prepare enough money for tips and other personal expenses.

      Wayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain: Choose this option while making your reservation if you want to climb Machu Picchu Mountain or Wayna Picchu. Please be aware that one of these mountain hikes includes an extra $75 per person fee.

        In order to give your body the opportunity to get used to the altitude before the hike, we strongly advise coming at least two days before the tour. Most people can usually acclimate to Cusco (3400m/11,154 ft) in a full day of leisurely walking and heavy drinking of water.

        What to bring

          Make sure you have the following necessary goods ready for your trekking adventure:

          Daypack: Make sure the backpack you have fits your demands for a daypack.

          Passport: Don't forget to bring your actual passport for identification requirements.

          Student Card: Please remember to bring your International Student Identity Card (ISIC) if you are eligible for a student discount.

          First Aid Kit: Pack a personal first aid pack and include any prescription drugs you may need.

          Sleeping Bag: We provide out sleeping bags for $25 if you don't have any.

          Rain Gear: Prepare for the rain by wearing clothing like a jacket and jeans. As an alternative, a rain poncho can be bought in Cusco.

          Hiking Boots: Use supportive shoes; ideally, these are walking boots. Bring jogging shoes or sandals for extra comfort at the camping.

          Clothing: Pack a full change of clothes, plus a beanie, cap, gloves, fleece jacket or shirt, sweater, and hat for chilly evenings. It is advised to wear thermal clothing, especially when sleeping.

          Water Bottle: To stay hydrated, carry aluminum or Nalgene-style water bottles.

          Flashlight: Remember to have an adequate headlamp or flashlight along with extra batteries.

          Sunscreen: To protect your skin from the sun's rays, use sunscreen. Bring hydrating or after-sun lotion for your face and body.

          Hats: To protect yourself from the sun, rain, and cold, pack a hat or cap.

          Insect Repellent: Use insect repellent to ward off bugs.

          Snacks: Please bring energy bars, chocolate, biscuits, dried fruit, and any other unique snack preferences that aren't covered by our meal offerings.

          Toilet Paper: For convenience, don't forget to pack handkerchiefs and toilet paper.

          Camera: With a camera, additional film, and batteries, record the trip. Keep in mind that low temperatures can cause batteries to run out more quickly.

          Extra Money: Bring some extra Peruvian soles on hand in case you need to buy drinks or have an emergency.

          Hiking Poles: Walking poles are optional, but they have advantages. Bring rubber protection for any poles that have metal spikes if you plan to use them on the Inca Trail.

          Towel: Bring a swimsuit if you intend to take a dip in the hot springs, and don't forget to pack a small towel for multiple uses.
