ITINERARY:

Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa - Humantay Lake - Salkantaypampa

Experience an unforgettable adventure starting with a convenient 05:00 am pickup from your hotel. Sit back and relax during a picturesque 2-hour drive in our private transport, passing through charming villages like Anta, Ancahuasi, and Limatambo. This scenic journey will lead us to Mollepata (2800 m / 9,186 ft), where we'll make a brief stop of approximately 30 minutes for a delicious breakfast and a chance to grab any last-minute snacks and drinks.

Next, we'll continue our journey with a one-hour drive to Soraypampa (3900 m / 12,795 ft), the starting point of our trail. Embark on a thrilling 1 1/2-hour hike up the slopes from Soraypampa to the mesmerizing Humantay Lake (4200m /13,779 ft). This pristine lake is fed by the hanging glaciers of the awe-inspiring Humantay Mountain (5,480 m / 17,979 ft), offering breathtaking views that will leave you in awe. Take your time to soak in the beauty of the lake and its surrounding mountains before we head back to Soraypampa for a fulfilling lunch.

After lunch, our adventure continues as we trek for approximately 2 hours to reach Salkantaypampa (4200 m / 13,779 ft), our first campsite. Marvel at the stunning landscapes and immerse yourself in the serenity of the mountains as we ascend to this picturesque location.

Throughout the journey, you'll cover a trekking distance of 9 km (5.5 miles), with an estimated duration of 5-6 hours. The trail reaches its highest point at 4200 m (13,779 ft), offering panoramic views that will take your breath away. Rest assured, our campsite is situated at the same altitude, ensuring your comfort and acclimatization.

Day 2: Salkantaypampa- Inkachiriaska Pass to Canal Inka

Prepare for an exhilarating day as we rise early to begin our hike. Over the course of 4-5 hours, we will trek through the captivating landscapes, passing by Pampa Japonesa, as we make our way towards the pinnacle of our adventure, the awe-inspiring Inkachiriaska Pass (5160m / 16,929 ft). Along the way, be prepared to be spellbound by the majestic Salkantay Mountain (6270m / 20,570 ft), revealing its breathtaking presence.

Take a well-deserved break at the summit of Inkachiriaska Pass, where panoramic views await. Let the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys leave you in awe. After relishing this moment, we'll begin our descent for approximately one hour, leading us to a picturesque spot where we'll enjoy a fulfilling lunch.

Recharged and ready to continue, our journey progresses for approximately 2 more hours towards our campsite at Canal Inka or Pampacahuana. Embrace the beauty of the rugged terrain and immerse yourself in the serenity of the surroundings as we venture further into this enchanting landscape.

Throughout the day, we'll cover a trekking distance of 12 km (7.45 miles), with an estimated duration of 7-8 hours. The highest point of our hike reaches an impressive altitude of 5160 m (16,929 ft), allowing you to witness the grandeur of the natural wonders that surround you. Our campsite is situated at 3900 m (12,795 ft), providing a comfortable resting place and allowing for acclimatization.

Day 3: Canal Inka to Wayllabamba

As the morning breaks, we embark on the next leg of our adventure, commencing with a leisurely hike down the captivating Pampacahuana valley. The narrow trail guides us for approximately 2 hours, leading us to the historical treasures of Inkarakay or Paucarcancha, where we will immerse ourselves in the rich history of this remarkable Inca site. Delve into the fascinating stories and learn about the ancient civilization that once thrived here.

After exploring the Inca site and savoring its historical significance, we continue our journey for another hour, heading towards the quaint village of Wayllabamba. This is where our trail merges with the renowned Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, and it's also where we reunite with our dedicated porters, who will be shouldering our gear for the upcoming days of hiking. Here, we bid farewell to our horsemen and horses, as they are not permitted on the Classic Inca Trail.

During this leg of the journey, we will cover a trekking distance of 9 km (5.5 miles), with an estimated duration of 5-6 hours. The maximum altitude we'll reach is 3900 m (12,795 ft), allowing us to appreciate the captivating views that surround us. Our campsite is situated at an altitude of 3100 m (10,170 ft), providing a serene resting place to unwind and prepare for the next leg of our expedition.

Day 4: Wayllabamba to Pacaymayu

After enjoying a nourishing breakfast to fuel our day, we embark on an invigorating climb for approximately 1 hour, leading us to Tres Piedras (The Three Stones). As we continue our ascent, we enter the enchanting realm of the cloud forest, a breathtaking landscape that awaits us with its mesmerizing beauty. After trekking through this spectacular vegetation for around 2 hours, we emerge above the tree line, reaching Llulluchapampa at 3800 m (12,467 ft). Take a short break at this point to rejuvenate with a cup of tea or coffee and savor some sandwiches, replenishing your energy for the next leg of our journey.

Prepare yourself for the challenge ahead as we embark on a 1 ½-hour hike towards the highest point of the Inca Trail - Abra de Warmihuñusca or Dead Woman's Pass (4215 m / 13,828 ft). As you approach the pass, you'll witness the predominant flora of vast grassy lands, painting a picturesque backdrop. Reaching the summit of the pass marks a significant achievement, and together, we'll celebrate having completed the most challenging part of the Inca Trail. Take a moment to relish in the accomplishment and soak in the panoramic views that surround us.

The following 2 hours are spent descending to our base camp in Pacaymayo (3600m / 11,811 ft), where we'll spend the fourth night. Enjoy the gradual descent and let the captivating landscapes continue to mesmerize you as we make our way to the campsite.

Throughout the day, we'll cover a trekking distance of 12 km (7.4 miles), with an estimated duration of 6-7 hours. The journey will take us to a maximum altitude of 4215 m (13,828 ft), offering breathtaking views and a sense of achievement. Our campsite at Pacaymayo sits at an altitude of 3600m (11,811 ft), providing a comfortable resting place to reflect on the day's accomplishments and prepare for the next leg of our Inca Trail adventure.

Day 5: Pacaymayu to Wiñaywayna

"The fifth day of our adventure begins with a delightful 40-minute hike from Pacaymayo to Runkurakay, a small archaeological site that offers a commanding view of the Pacaymayu valley. Take a moment to absorb the scenic beauty from this elevated vantage point. Continuing our journey, we trek for another 45 minutes, reaching the pinnacle of the second pass, Abra Runkurakay (3950m / 12,959 ft). As we descend from the pass, we'll immerse ourselves in the magnificent cloud forest, a wonderland adorned with vibrant orchids, hanging moss, ferns, and native flowers. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach Sayacmarka (3500m / 11,482 ft), passing by the small Inca site of Conchamarka along the way.

Our path winds through the enchanting cloud forest, leading us to Chaquicocha (3550m / 11,646 ft), where we will pause for a well-deserved lunch. Here, we'll savor the nourishment while taking in the natural splendor that surrounds us. Continuing our trek, we follow a paved stone road for approximately 1 ½ hours, which leads us to the Phuyupatamarka pass (3680m / 12,073 ft). Along this route, we'll pass through an awe-inspiring Inca tunnel carved into the rocks, adding a touch of mystery and history to our journey. Once we reach the top of the pass, a breathtaking vista unfolds, revealing the majestic snow-capped peaks of Salkantay (6271m / 20,574 ft) and Machu Picchu Mountain.

The descent from the pass takes us to our last campsite, Wiñay Wayna (2650m / 8,694 ft), located near Machu Picchu. This final stretch treats us to captivating scenery and prepares us for the culmination of our adventure.

On this remarkable day, we'll cover a trekking distance of 16 km (9.94 miles), with an estimated duration of 8-9 hours. The journey will take us to a maximum altitude of 3950m (12,959 ft), offering awe-inspiring views and an opportunity to connect with the rich history and natural wonders of the region. Our campsite at Wiñay Wayna rests at an altitude of 2650m (8,694 ft), providing a serene resting place as we prepare for the much-anticipated exploration of Machu Picchu.

Day 6: Wiñay Wayna to Machu Piccchu

Prepare for an unforgettable day as we wake you up bright and early at 4:00 am to enjoy a hearty breakfast before embarking on our hike to Machu Picchu, starting at 5:30 am. From our campsite at Wiñay Wayna, we'll trek for approximately 1 hour, making our way to the iconic Sun Gate or Inti Punku (2720 m / 8,923 ft). As you reach this vantage point, a breathtaking panorama awaits, revealing the majestic beauty of Machu Picchu for the first time. Take a moment to soak in the awe-inspiring view and capture the perfect postcard-worthy picture.

Continuing our descent, it will take another 40 minutes to reach Machu Picchu and arrive at the classical viewpoint. Here, you'll have an incredible vantage point to admire the entire Machu Picchu Archaeological site, allowing you to truly appreciate its grandeur. Don't forget to capture that picture-perfect moment that will forever capture the essence of Machu Picchu.

Next, we'll descend to the main entrance to temporarily store our backpacks in the deposit, which takes approximately 10 minutes. Then, we'll return to the Inca site to begin our guided tour of Machu Picchu. Accompanied by your knowledgeable guide, you'll explore the site for approximately 2 hours, immersing yourself in the history, culture, and architectural marvels that define Machu Picchu. As you wander through its ancient structures and winding pathways, allow yourself to be transported back in time.

Once you've fully absorbed the wonders of Machu Picchu, we'll take a bus down to the village of Aguas Calientes for a well-deserved lunch. Typically, we board the bus around 12:00 pm. The bus ride lasts approximately 25 minutes, and your guides will provide you with the necessary ticket. Prior to your departure from Machu Picchu, our guides will inform you of the designated time and location of the restaurant where the group will meet in Aguas Calientes.

After enjoying a delicious lunch, we'll board the train to Ollantaytambo, where our private transportation awaits to transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco. Sit back, relax, and reflect on the incredible journey you've experienced, with memories of Machu Picchu etched in your heart and mind.

On this transformative day, we'll cover a trekking distance of 6 km (3.72 miles), with an estimated duration of 3-4 hours. The maximum altitude reached will be 2720m (8,923 ft), allowing you to witness the magic of Machu Picchu from an elevated viewpoint. The ancient city itself sits at an altitude of 2400m (7,874 ft), beckoning you to explore its hidden wonders.


What's included?

    Prior to your departure, you will have a comprehensive trek briefing at your hotel with your guide, ensuring that you are well-prepared for your adventure. During the briefing, you will receive your duffel bag, which will be carried by the porters throughout the hike. Please note that the duffel bag should not exceed 8 kg (17 lb) in weight. You'll only need to carry a small daypack with essential items such as rain gear, warm fleece, a water bottle, and a camera.

    Our team of professional guides consists of knowledgeable locals who have grown up in the region. They are bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish, and possess a deep understanding of Peruvian and Inca history, traditions, and the local flora and fauna. Once we receive your request and deposit, we will promptly handle the permit process, leaving you free to focus on your upcoming adventure.

    Transportation is provided throughout your trek, beginning with private transport from Cusco to the starting point of the trail at Soraypamapa. We also arrange bus tickets from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes and train tickets from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo, specifically on the Expedition tourist train. To complete the journey, we offer private transportation from Ollantaytambo back to your hotel in Cusco. Rest assured, our dedicated team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and ensure a smooth and comfortable journey throughout.

    Your sustenance is important to us, and we take pride in offering a delightful dining experience. Our meal plan includes 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 5 dinners, featuring a diverse range of dishes such as pancakes, omelets, soups, fresh fruits, chicken, fish, meat, rice, pasta, and hot beverages including coca leaf tea, known for its effectiveness against altitude sickness.     For your convenience, our service includes a personal porter who will carry your personal equipment, such as a mattress, sleeping bag, and extra clothing, while you hike to the camp sites. Please ensure that your duffel bag does not exceed 6 kg (13 lb) in weight. Additionally, we have a team of porters assigned to carry the tents, food, and cooking equipment, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable trekking experience.

    To further assist you during the journey, we have horsemen and horses available. They will transport the tents, food, cooking equipment, and your personal equipment, with a maximum weight limit of 8 kilos (including the sleeping bag) per person. In the event that someone requires assistance and is unable to continue walking, an emergency horse is available to provide support.

    Our camping equipment is designed to offer comfort and convenience. Two people will always share a spacious 4-person tent, specifically the Eureka Timberline SQ 4XT, ensuring ample space for your backpacks. Each person will also have an inflatable sleeping pad or air mattress to place under their sleeping bag, providing an extra layer of comfort. Our well-equipped camp includes cooking equipment, a dining tent, and a kitchen tent, ensuring a pleasant dining experience amidst nature.

          Sleeping bag (for $25 you can also rent one from us): A comfortable sleeping bag is necessary for a restful night's sleep. If you prefer not to bring yourown, we offer the option to rent one from us for a nominal fee.

          Rain gear (jacket and pants if available) or rain poncho: Be prepared for changing weather conditions by packing a reliable rain jacket and pants.

          Alternatively, you can opt for a rain poncho, which can be purchased in Cusco if needed.

          Strong footwear, preferably walking boots with ankle support: Invest in sturdy walking boots that provide ankle support for optimal comfort and safety

          Sandals or jogging shoes for camp: To enhance your comfort during downtime at the campsite, bring along a pair of sandals or jogging shoes.
