ITINERARY:

Day 1: Cusco, Ollantaytambo, Km 82 to Wayllabamba.

Your adventure begins with an early pick-up at 5:30 am from your hotel. Our private transportation takes you on a scenic journey through the legendary Sacred Valley, passing by charming towns like Chinchero, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo. During the approximately 2 1⁄2 hour drive, our bus makes a 30-minute stop in Ollantaytambo, allowing you to enjoy a hearty breakfast or purchase snacks and drinks.

By 9:00 am, we arrive at 'km 82,' the starting point of our trail. Brace yourself as we begin our expedition by crossing the Urubamba River and tracing its left bank for about 1 1⁄2 hours. Along the way, a magnificent sight awaits you at Wilka Rakay, offering panoramic views of the ancient Inca site, Patallapta, and the picturesque Kusichaca Valley. The subsequent descent towards the Kusichaca River is a relatively straightforward path. As we continue our trek, prepare to be awe-struck by the majestic snow-capped Peak Veronica or Wakay Wilka (5750 m/18,864 ft) within the stunning Urubamba Mountain range.

Our journey continues along the enchanting Kusichaca Valley until we reach our first campsite nestled at Wayllabamba (3100 m/10,170 ft). Here, we settle in for the night, surrounded by the tranquility of nature.

Day 2: Wayllabamba, Dead Woman Pass and Pacaymayu.

After a satisfying breakfast, we embark on an invigorating ascent towards Tres Piedras (The Three Stones) for approximately 1 hour, setting the tone for an extraordinary day ahead. Our journey continues as we venture into the captivating cloud forest, a true gem of nature's artistry. For the next 2 hours, we immerse ourselves in the breathtaking vegetation, surrounded by the wonders of this enchanting forest.

Emerging from the forest, we reach the tree line at Llulluchapampa, situated at an elevation of 3800 m (12,467 ft). Here, we take a short break to rejuvenate ourselves with some refreshing tea or coffee, soaking in the tranquil beauty of our surroundings.

Prepare for the next leg of our adventure—an exhilarating 1 1⁄2 hour hike that leads us to the crown jewel of the Inca Trail: the Abra de Warmihuñusca, famously known as Dead Woman Pass, standing proudly at an impressive altitude of 4215 m (13,828 ft). As we approach the pass, the landscape transforms into vast grassy lands that domina this section of the trail. Reaching the summit, a sense of triumph fills the air as we celebrate our collective achievement, having conquered the most challenging part of the Inca Trail.

The subsequent 2-hour descent takes us to the base camp in Pacaymayo (3600m / 11,811 ft), where we will spend our second night, surrounded by the serenity of the Andean wilderness.

Day 3: Pacaymayu, Rukurakay Pass, Phuyupatamarka to Wiñay Wayna.

Begin your day with a delightful 40-minute hike from Pacaymayo to Runkurakay, a small archaeological site offering commanding views of the Pacaymayu valley. Marvel at the breathtaking views that unfold before your eyes. Continuing onward, a scenic 45-minute hike brings us to the summit of the second pass, Abra Runkurakay, standing proudly at 3950m (12,959 ft).

Descend for approximately 1 hour, immersing yourself in the magical realm of the cloud forest. Orchids, hanging moss, ferns, and native flowers adorn the path, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. As we traverse this verdant paradise, we encounter the captivating Inca sites of Conchamarka. Soon after, we arrive at Chaquicocha (3550 m/11,646 ft), where a well-deserved lunch break awaits.

For the next 1 1⁄2 hours, we follow a paved stone road that leads us to the Phuyupatamarka pass (3680m/12,073 ft). Along the way, we pass through an impressive Inca tunnel carved into the rocks, adding to the sense of wonder. Reaching the summit, we are rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks of Salkantay (6271 m/20,574 ft) and Machu Picchu Mountain.

Descending from the pass, we make our way to our final campsite at Wiñayhuyna (2650m/8,694 ft), nestled near Machu Picchu. Here, surrounded by nature's tranquility, we prepare for the culmination of our journey.

Day 4: Wiñay Wayna, Machu Picchu, Aguas Calientes to Cusco

This day we start early morning at 4:00 am. Have some hot tea before embarking on our final hike to Machu Picchu, commencing at 5:30 am. From Wiñay Wayna, it will take approximately 1 hour to reach the iconic Sun Gate or Inti Punku (2720 m/8,923 ft). As you approach this vantage point, be prepared for an extraordinary sight—the first breathtaking view of Machu Picchu, a moment that will leave you in awe of its magnificence.

Descend for another 40 minutes to Machu Picchu, arriving at the classic viewpoint that offers a panoramic view of the entire archaeological site. This is the perfect spot to capture postcard-worthy pictures with the captivating backdrop of Machu Picchu.

Next, we'll head to the main entrance to temporarily store our backpacks in the deposit area, a quick 10-minute process. Returning to the Inca site, prepare to embark on a guided tour of Machu Picchu led by our knowledgeable guide. Over the course of approximately 2 hours, you will immerse yourself in the fascinating history and remarkable features of this ancient wonder. From hidden corners to grand structures, you'll explore every facet of Machu Picchu.

Once you feel that you've thoroughly explored the site, we'll take a bus down to the village of Aguas Calientes, where a delicious lunch awaits. Typically, we board the bus around 13:00 pm, and your guides will provide you with the tickets. Before departing Machu Picchu, your guides will inform you of the time and location to meet at the restaurant in Aguas Calientes, where the group will gather.

From Aguas Calientes, we'll embark on a train journey to Ollantaytambo. Our private transportation will then safely transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco, ensuring a comfortable and convenient return.

      Sleeping Bag: A sleeping bag is available for rent at an additional cost of USD 25.

      Tips for the Crew and Personal Expenses: Showing appreciation for the dedicated crew is encouraged. Tips are at your discretion and typically divided among the guide, chef, porters, and supporting staff.

      Personal Expenses: Additional snacks, drinks, souvenirs, or personal equipment are not included in the trek package.

        In order to give your body the opportunity to get used to the altitude before the hike, we strongly advise coming at least two days before the tour. Most people can usually acclimate to Cusco (3400m/11,154 ft) in a full day of leisurely walking and heavy drinking of water.

          Original Passport: This is mandatory for trek participation.

          International Student Identity Card (ISIC): If eligible for a student discount, ensure you have your ISIC.

          Personal First-Aid Kit: Include necessary medications and any personal medical items.

          Rain Gear: Carry a rain jacket and pants or a rain poncho. Plastic ponchos can be found in Cusco if needed.

          Sturdy Footwear: Opt for walking boots with ankle support for stability.

          Sandals or Jogging Shoes: These provide comfort at the campsite.

          Change of Clothing: Pack a complete change of clothes, including a sweater, fleece jacket or shirt, beanie, hat, and gloves for chilly nights. Thermal clothing is recommended for sleeping.

          Water Bottles: Metal or Nalgene bottles to stay hydrated.

          Sunscreen: Protect your skin from the sun's rays.

          After-Sun Cream: Keep your face and body moisturized.
