ITINERARY:

DAY 1: Cusco - Capuliyoc - Chiquiska

Begin your day with an early morning pickup at 05:00am from your hotel, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free start to your adventure. Our private van will transport you to the picturesque village of Capuliyoc at an elevation of 2945m / 9,662 ft, where the real magic begins. Throughout the 5-hour scenic drive, you'll be captivated by the awe-inspiring Salkantay Mountain, towering above at an impressive 6270m, making it the second highest mountain in the Cusco region.

En route, we'll cross the renowned Cunyac Bridge, which serves as a symbolic gateway between the departments of Cusco and Apurimac. A brief stop in Curahuasi village offers you the opportunity to gather any last-minute essentials for your hike. Take a moment to soak in the local charm and prepare yourself for the wonders that lie ahead.

Upon reaching Capuliyoc, a meeting point between explorers and adventure, you'll be introduced to our skilled horse drivers who will accompany us throughout the trek. Prepare for an exciting descent as we embark on our trek towards our first campsite, Chiquiska, situated at an altitude of 1850m / 6,069 ft. The journey will take approximately 3-4 hours, allowing you to witness the fascinating changes in weather, flora, and fauna that accompany each step.

DAY 2: Chiquiska - Rosalinas - Marampata - Choquequirao

Our descent begins as we make our way to Playa Rosalinas, where the magnificent Apurimac River awaits at approximately 1550 m / 5,085 ft. Enjoy a leisurely one-hour hike through picturesque surroundings, immersing yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds you.

Crossing the Apurimac River via a sturdy bridge marks the start of our ascent towards Santa Rosa. Over the course of approximately three hours, we'll climb to an elevation of 2100 m / 6,889 ft, allowing you to revel in the invigorating experience of conquering the rugged terrain. Take a well-deserved break in Santa Rosa, rejuvenating your senses before continuing the journey.

The next leg of our trek involves another thrilling ascent, this time leading us to Maranpata at 2900 m / 9,514 ft. The captivating landscapes and mesmerizing views of Choquequirao will keep you enthralled during the two-hour hike. Enjoy a sumptuous lunch, savoring the flavors amidst the breathtaking backdrop of the ancient ruins.

After indulging in a delicious meal, we'll continue toward our second campsite. The two-hour hike brings us closer to the awe-inspiring Choquequirao Inca site, situated at an elevation of 3100 m / 10,170 ft. As we approach this architectural marvel, keep your eyes peeled for the majestic Andean condors soaring through the skies, providing an unforgettable spectacle. As we continue our descent, immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring views of the Apurimac Canyon for approximately 4 hours. Gear up for a rewarding uphill climb that lies ahead, lasting approximately 2 hours. As we ascend, the base camp of Chiquiska at 1850m / 6,069 ft comes into view, where we will spend the fourth night. Let the anticipation of a comfortable evening's rest spur you on as you conquer the incline.

This is where we bid farewell to our incredible horsemen and mark the end of our trekking adventure.

As we climb, be prepared to immerse yourself in breathtaking views and captivating landscapes. The challenging yet fulfilling journey will be accompanied by a sense of accomplishment and the anticipation of reaching our final destination.

      Gratuities and Tipping: While fair compensation is provided to our staff, we appreciate any optional gratuities as a gesture of satisfaction for exceptional service or guidance. Your discretion guides tipping, allowing you to express appreciation as you see fit.

      Please note

        We guarantee perform the tour with small groups. Our minimum group size is only 2 people, with the maximum of 12 people.

        In order to give your body the opportunity to get used to the altitude before the hike, we strongly advise coming at least two days before the tour. Most people can usually acclimate to Cusco (3400m/11,154 ft) in a full day of leisurely walking and heavy drinking of water.

        What to bring

          To ensure you have a comfortable and prepared journey during the Choquequirao Trek, we recommend bringing the following items.

          Backpack for Your Daypack:  A backpack for your daypack is essential to carry your personal belongings and essentials during the trek. Choose a comfortable and appropriately sized backpack to accommodate your needs.

          Original Passport (Mandatory):  Don't forget to bring your original passport, as it is mandatory for identification purposes during the trek.

          International Student Identity Card (ISIC):  If you are an international student and wish to claim a student discount, remember to carry your International Student Identity Card (ISIC) for verification.

          Personal First-Aid Kit and Medications:  It's important to carry a personal first-aid kit that includes any necessary medications you may require during the trek. This ensures you have access to essential medical supplies tailored to your specific needs.

          Sleeping Bag Rental:  For your convenience, we offer the option to rent a sleeping bag from us. Priced at $25, this ensures you have a warm and comfortable sleeping arrangement during the trek. Rest assured that our sleeping bags are well-maintained and suitable for the mountainous conditions you'll encounter.

          Rain Gear or Poncho:  Be prepared for changing weather conditions by bringing rain gear, including a jacket and pants. If you don't have rain gear, we recommend bringing a rain poncho, which can also be purchased in Cusco.

          Sturdy Footwear:  To ensure stability and ankle support, we recommend wearing strong walking boots during the trek. These will provide the necessary traction and protection on various terrains.

          Sandals or Jogging Shoes:  For added comfort at the campsite, consider bringing a pair of sandals or jogging shoes. These can provide relief for your feet after a day of trekking.

          Change of Clothing:  Pack one complete change of clothing, including a sweater, jacket, shirt fleece, beanie, hat, and gloves for the night. Thermal clothing is also recommended, especially for sleeping, to keep you warm in colder temperatures.

          Water Bottles:  Carry water bottles, preferably of metal or Nalgene type, to stay hydrated during the trek. It's important to have access to clean drinking water throughout the journey.

          Flashlight/Headlamp, Batteries, and Sunscreen:  Ensure you have a reliable flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries for illumination during the trek. Don't forget to pack sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun's rays.

          After-Sun Cream and Hat/Cap:  Pack after-sun cream or hydrating cream for your face and body to replenish moisture. Bring a hat or cap to protect yourself from the sun, rain, and cold.

          Insect Repellent and Snacks:  Carry insect repellent to protect against bugs during the trek. Additionally, bring your preferred snacks, such as dried fruit, biscuits, chocolate, or energy bars, as a supplement to our comprehensive meal service.

          Toilet Paper and Handkerchiefs:  Remember to bring essential items like toilet paper and handkerchiefs for personal hygiene.

          Camera, Films, and Extra Batteries:  Capture the stunning landscapes and memorable moments with a camera. Don't forget to pack extra films and batteries, as batteries tend to deplete more quickly in cold conditions.

          Extra Money and Walking Poles:  Carry some extra money in Peruvian soles for purchasing drinks or in case of emergencies. Walking poles can provide additional support and stability during the trek if desired.
