Welcome to the beautiful 5-day, 4-night Ausangate Trek, a trip that will thoroughly immerse you in the awe-inspiring magnificence of the Peruvian Andes. This trek is more than just a journey because it takes you through some of Peru's most remote and pristine landscapes. You'll encounter difficult mountain slopes, chilly glacial lakes, and towering peaks as you set out on this thrilling expedition, all against the stunning backdrop of Ausangate Mountain.

Prepare to be charmed by the untouched, pure scenery as well as by the native communities and their traditional way of life. Prepare to learn about the Ausangate Trek's pristine beauty and rich cultural diversity, including what to bring and what to anticipate along the way.


ITINERARY:

Day 1: Cusco-Tinki to Upis

Our journey begins with a prompt departure from your Cusco hotel at 5:00 a.m. You'll be comfortably transported in a private vehicle, tracing the scenic route along the Cusco-Puerto Maldonado highway. As you journey through this picturesque landscape, you'll pass through several charming villages such as Urcos, Ccatca, and other outlying communities before finally arriving at Ocongate, your last chance for any necessary purchases. The entire drive, taking approximately 2 hours, leads us to our starting point, the village of Tinki, situated at 3,900 meters (12,795 feet) above sea level.

The adventure truly kicks off here as we embark on a gentle ascent across the expansive pampas, offering unobstructed views beyond the tree line. Along the way, you'll encounter small herder settlements and weaver communities that add a cultural dimension to your hike. After approximately three hours of walking, we'll pause for a well-deserved lunch break, already treated to splendid views of the majestic Ausangate peak.

Continuing our journey for another two hours, we'll finally reach our first campsite at Upis,at an altitude of 4,400 meters (14,435 feet). From this vantage point, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, immersing yourself in the natural beauty and tranquility of the Peruvian Andes.

Day 2: Upis to Ausangate Cocha

After a full breakfast on day two, we started off at 6:30 a.m. for an exciting trek. We begin our journey with a difficult ascent that takes about three hours and brings us to the spectacular Arapa Pass, which is located at an astounding elevation of 4,800 meters (15,748 feet). You'll be rewarded with a spectacular panoramic view of the recognizable Ausangate Mountain at the pass's summit, which is a sight to behold.

Our route from the Arapa Pass takes us across a dry hillside in 30 minutes, then descends for 45 minutes, at times rather steeply. A tranquil and captivating state of mind is created by the valley we descend into, which is studded with deep blue glacial lakes and tumbling waterfalls. We'll stop for a brief lunch by one of these gorgeous lakes and enjoy the peace and quiet of this extraordinary natural environment.

The hike continues with a one-hour walk on level ground that takes us to another hour-long gradual incline. The Ausangate Pass, which is located at an elevation of 4,900 meters (16,076 feet), is the second pass of the day. You'll be rewarded with yet another magnificent view from this high vantage point, this time of Ausangate Mountain and the breathtaking Lake Ausangatecocha, a crystalline expanse created by the melting glacier.

We descend from the pass in about 1 hour, arriving at our campground at 4,600 meters (15,091 feet), next to the serene Lake Ausangatecocha. You are now at the foot of an Ausangate glacier, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Andes. As sunset approaches, we will have some tea and dinner.

Day 3: Ausangatecocha-Palomani Pass to Sorapata

Our day's journey begins after a filling breakfast with a two-hour ascent that takes us to the breathtaking Palomani Pass, which rises to an astonishing 5,200 meters (17,060 feet) above sea level. A wonderfully stunning picture awaits you at the summit of this peak, where you'll be treated to expansive, unhindered views that completely enclose the Cordillera Vilcanota.

After a thrilling hour-long descent down a difficult slope, we reach the alluring Machuracay camp. We'll take a break here for a well-earned lunch break. We will be treated to the tranquil beauty of the valley as we go on our trek, with the towering Ausangate Mountain watching over us gracefully from behind.

We finish our day's exploration by hiking to the serene Sorapata valley, which is located at an elevation of 4,590 meters (15,059 feet), where we will spend the night. After a day of exploration and natural beauty, this peaceful setting offers the ideal environment for rest and renewal.

Day 4: Sorapata, Hampa Pass to Pacchanta

On the e0ur day, we will wake you up early morning to have breakfast. After breakfast, we will start walking thought the Jampa small community for about 3 hours. We head to the last pass of our hike, Jampa pass 5000m/ 16,404 ft. Along the way, we will enjoy different colored lakes very well know as a 7 lakes views of the Ausangate Mountain from different angle and lunch beside of this beautiful area. After lunch, we will continue 2 more hours to our last camp Pacchanta 4200m / 13,779 ft where we can enjoy the thermal spring and free afternoon to explore the highland community.

Day 5: Pacchanta to Cusco

We will depart for the final leg of our adventure early in the morning along an easy-to-follow trail after an excellent meal. It will take us around two hours to complete this easy trek to Tinki, which is a lovely place. A delicious lunch will be provided when we get to Tinki, giving us a chance to enjoy the final tastes of our journey.

Following this delicious supper, our private transportation will be waiting to take you on a lovely ride back to your Cusco hotel.

    Transportation: Our trek begins with a seamless start, as we provide private transportation from your Cusco hotel to the trailhead. At the conclusion of this incredible journey, our private transportation will safely return you to Cusco, ensuring your convenience throughout the entire experience.

    Meals: Throughout the trek, you can savor a delightful array of meals, including 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 5 dinners, along with a daily morning snack. Our culinary offerings feature a diverse range of options, from mouthwatering pancakes and omelets to hearty soups, fresh fruits, and a variety of meat and seafood choices. We also provide rice, pasta, and hot beverages, including the highly effective coca leaf tea, which can assist with altitude sickness. Additionally, each afternoon brings a delightful tea time with a selection of tea, coffee, and popcorn. For those with specific dietary preferences or requirements, we are more than happy to accommodate vegetarian meals and special diets. Simply let us know in advance or communicate your needs during the evening briefing prior to the trek.

    Water: For your comfort and convenience, we offer warm water every morning and afternoon, allowing you to freshen up during the trek.

    Professional Guide: You'll be led by a knowledgeable local bilingual professional tour guide who is not only skilled in leading treks but is also enthusiastic about sharing the rich history of the region. Our guides are passionate about making your journey educational and memorable.

    Horsemen and Horses: To ease your journey, we have horsemen and horses at your service. They are responsible for carrying the tents, food, cooking equipment, and your personal gear, such as mattresses, sleeping bags, and clothing. We have a weight limit of a maximum of 8 kilograms per person to ensure your comfort. An emergency horse is also available in case someone needs assistance and cannot continue walking.

    Camping Equipment: Your camping experience will be comfortable and secure, as two people will share a spacious four-person dome igloo tent, providing ample space for your backpack. We supply all necessary cooking equipment, dining tents, kitchen tents, and a well-equipped first aid kit, including an emergency oxygen bottle. Additionally, each trek participant will receive an inflatable sleeping pad for added comfort. For your convenience, we have toilet tents with biodegradable toilet facilities to ensure responsible waste management.

    Water and Hygiene: Starting on the second day of the trek, we provide filtered, boiled water to ensure your hydration and cleanliness. Biodegradable hand soaps are also available for your use.

    Entrance Fees: All entrance fees to the local communities and attractions are included, granting you access to the unique cultural and natural wonders of the region.

    Exclusions

      A large number of essential services are included in our all-inclusive package; however, before you leave on your trip, you should also bear the following in mind:

      Sleeping Bag and Trekking Poles: To ensure your utmost comfort and convenience throughout the walk, we offer rental options for sleeping bags at a fair price. Additionally, if you'd prefer more stability on the route, trekking poles are available for your use.

      Gratuities and Extra Spending: Even though we make every attempt to make your vacation thorough and stress-free, we nevertheless recommend budgeting for personal expenses, tips, and souvenirs. Although they are always greatly appreciated, tips for our hard-working team, which includes our guides and porters, are completely voluntary.

          Sturdy Footwear: Invest in strong, ankle-supporting walking boots for the challenging terrain you'll encounter. Bring sandals or comfortable jogging shoes for relaxation at the campsite.

          Clothing: Pack a complete change of clothing, including a sweater, jacket, fleece, beanie, hat, and gloves for cooler evenings. Thermal clothing is recommended, particularly for sleeping.

          Water Bottles: Stay hydrated with metal or Nalgene-type water bottles.

          Lighting: Bring a reliable flashlight or headlamp with spare batteries.

          Sun Protection: Safeguard your skin with sunscreen, and don't forget after-sun cream or hydrating lotion for your face and body.

          Headwear: Protect yourself from the elements with a hat or cap suitable for sun, rain, and cold weather.

          Insect Repellent: Keep pesky insects at bay with an effective insect repellent.

          Snacks: While we provide comprehensive meal services, feel free to bring snacks like dried fruit, biscuits, chocolate, and energy bars for personal preferences.

          Toiletries: Carry essential toiletries, including toilet paper and handkerchiefs.

          Camera Equipment: Capture stunning landscapes with your camera, film, and extra batteries. Note that batteries deplete faster in cold conditions.

          Cash: Set aside some extra Peruvian soles for purchasing drinks and handling emergencies.

          Walking Poles (Optional): If you prefer using walking poles, bring them along. For poles with metal spikes, remember rubber protectors if you plan to use them on the classic Inca Trail.

          Small Towel: A compact towel comes in handy for various situations.

          Swimsuit: If you plan to take a refreshing dip in the hot springs, don't forget your swimsuit.
