The Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain Trek is a magnificent 3-day, 2-night journey that will envelop you in the breathtaking natural splendor of Peru's Andean highlands. Your Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain activities will be made even more memorable by our guided walk, which will arm you with all the knowledge you need to make the most of the country's natural wonders.


ITINERARY:

Day 1: Cusco- Upis- Pukacocha

We will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning at 5:00 a.m. on our private transportation. We take a 3-hour drive through the beautiful countryside to the small Andean communities of Upis (4400 m/14,435 ft), the starting point of our trek. In Upis, we will meet the local horsemen who will accompany us on our Ausangate and Rainbow Mountain treks. and start our hike with a climb to Arapa Pass, at 4800m (15,748 ft). The ascent will take approximately 3 hours. Along the way, we will have panoramic views of different colored lakes, the majestic Ausangate Glacier, and spectacular views of the surrounding snow peaks. After taking some great photos, we will descend for another 3 hours until we get our lunch spot, then it will take us two more hours to our first camp at Puka Cocha (4600 m/15,091 ft), which is one of the most beautiful campsites close to the Ausangate glacier and at the bank of the lake.

Trekking distance: 13 km (8.077 miles)

Day 2: Pukacocha to Surinecocha

We will have an early breakfast and then start to hike approximately 2 hours uphill until we get to Apacheta Pass (4900 m/16,076 ft). The ascent is relatively steep. On reaching the summit, spectacular views of the entire way and the incredible views of the Ausangate glacier sit right in front of you. After enjoying the beauty around you and taking some great pictures, we will start to descend through the green valley with alpacas and llamas grazing on the mountain site. As we approach the camp for lunch, Anantapata is 4600 m/15,091 ft. After lunch, we will start gradually ascent around one hour to the Warmisaya pass (4990 m/16,371 ft.). From here, we will have the first view of the amazing Rainbow Mountain in the distance. Then we go down to Surinecocha, where our camp is.

Day 3: Surinecocha – Rainbow Mountain – Red valley

After an early breakfast, we will embark on a gradual ascent lasting approximately one hour, culminating in our arrival at the breathtaking Rainbow Mountain, which stands proudly at 5050 meters (16,568 feet) above sea level. Along the way, you'll be treated to captivating views of nearby snow-capped peaks, all while gazing upon the iconic natural wonder that is the colorful Attraction Mountain in Peru.

Our knowledgeable guide will provide insights into what makes these mountains so extraordinary. They are a mesmerizing tapestry of various minerals, creating intricate and vibrant stone striations that paint a vivid portrait of nature's artistry. Undoubtedly, this is one of South America's most awe-inspiring destinations and among Peru's most enchanting natural attractions.

As we savor the breathtaking views during the sunrise and capture these moments through our cameras, our journey will continue. We will descend through the enchanting Red Valley, a picturesque route that will lead us down for approximately 1.5 hours. This descent will bring us to the welcoming small community of Llaqtu, where we will have lunch, marking the end of our invigorating trek.

Following this satisfying meal, our private transport will take us back to Cusco, a journey that lasts about three hours. Along the way, you'll be treated to picturesque views of the Andes, passing through charming traditional villages that offer glimpses of the region's rich culture and heritage. Our transport will ensure your safe return to your Cusco hotel, with an estimated arrival time of around 17:00 PM.

    Horsemen and Trusty Steeds: Say goodbye to carrying heavy loads. We provide horsemen and horses to transport tents, food, cooking equipment, and your personal gear, including mattresses, sleeping bags, and clothing (limited to a maximum of 6 kilograms per person). In case of emergencies, we have an additional horse available to assist anyone who may require support during the journey.

    Comprehensive Camping Equipment: Rest comfortably in spacious four-person dome igloo tents, shared by two individuals, ensuring ample room for your belongings. Our equipment includes dining tents, kitchen tents, and a well-stocked first aid kit, complete with emergency oxygen.

    Hygienic Facilities: We take environmental responsibility seriously, providing toilet tents equipped with biodegradable toilet facilities for your comfort and to preserve the natural beauty of the surroundings.

      Sleeping Bag and Trekking Poles: To ensure your utmost comfort and convenience during the trek, we offer rental options for sleeping bags at an affordable cost. Additionally, if you prefer to use trekking poles for added stability on the trail, they are available for your convenience.

      Sleeping Bag Rental (Optional: $25): Should you choose not to bring your own sleeping bag, we provide the option to rent one at a cost of $25. Our sleeping bags are designed to offer you a restful night's sleep in the midst of Peru's stunning natural landscapes.

      Gratuities and Extra Spending: While we strive to provide a comprehensive and worry-free experience, we recommend budgeting for personal expenses, tips, and souvenirs during your journey. Gratuities for our hardworking staff, including guides and porters, are greatly appreciated but entirely at your discretion.
