Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado & River Journey to Finca Sachavacayoc
Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado Airport (PEM), meet your Inca Trekkers team and transfer to our local office. Here, you can safely store your main luggage and pack essential items for the rainforest.
Board a motorized dugout canoe for a 3-hour journey down the scenic Tambopata River. As we head deeper into the reserve, observe riverbank wildlife including capybaras, black caimans, side-necked turtles, and Amazonian waterbirds. Enjoy a fresh box lunch onboard (vegetarian and special dietary options available). Upon arrival at Finca Sachavacayoc, check into your accommodations and receive an orientation briefing. In the late afternoon, take an introductory rainforest walk focusing on local flora and medicinal trees. After dinner, embark on a guided night walk to discover nocturnal species such as tree frogs, arachnids, and nocturnal insects.

Day 2: The Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick & Condenado Oxbow Lake
Start early with a 4:00 AM departure upstream along the Tambopata River to arrive at the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick during peak morning activity. Breakfast is served on the boat as the sun rises over the rainforest canopy.
At the clay lick, watch hundreds of red-and-green, scarlet, and blue-and-yellow macaws—alongside various parrot species—gather on the riverbank cliffs to consume mineral-rich clay essential to their diet. After this display, return to the lodge for lunch and mid-day relaxation. In the afternoon, take a 1-hour trail hike to Condenado Lake, a remote oxbow lake surrounded by primary forest. Board a silent paddle canoe to spot hoatzins ("stinkbirds"), caimans, and monkey species along the tree lines. Return to the lodge for dinner followed by an optional evening trail walk.

Day 3: Oxbow Lake Wildlife Safari & Rainforest Ecology
After breakfast, embark on a morning excursion targeting key oxbow lake habitats in the Tambopata ecosystem. This trip focuses on searching for family groups of Giant River Otters( Pteronura brasiliensis ), as well as kingfishers, horned screamers, and black caimans.
Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, hike along specialized forest trails where your naturalist guide explains Amazonian plant-animal interactions, ancient hardwood trees ( Ceiba ), fungal networks, and traditional indigenous medicinal uses. Following dinner, head out on a final night walk to search for nocturnal mammals, owls, and amphibians.

Day 4: Finca Sachavacayoc to Puerto Maldonado Departure
Enjoy a final early breakfast at the lodge before saying goodbye to the rainforest. Transfer by boat back along the Tambopata River to Puerto Maldonado, followed by vehicle transport to our office to collect your stored luggage.
Finally, our team transfers you to Puerto Maldonado Airport (PEM) in time for your onward flight to Cusco or Lima.
