Ausangate Trek & Rainbow Mountain Trek (4D/3N)

The Rainbow Mountain of Peru, Also known Vinicunca newly discovered surrounding the massive Ausangate Mountain (6370m).It is an excellent trekking area offering the travelers a combination of spectacular mountain views of snow-capped peaks, turquoise lakes, herd of llamas, alpacas and Quechua farming weaving communities who are still living almost like in the Inca time. We start out by trekking to the first part of the classic Ausangate trek and then join to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain trek. This Ausangate Rainbow Mountain trek requires at least 2 days of acclimatization to the altitude at Cusco or at another high altitude regions. This trek is recommended for people who want to experience the nature and exploring the less popular trails.

DAY 1: Cusco - Tinki - Upis Hot Springs

We will pick you up from your hotel early morning at 05:00am in our private transportation. We take a 3 hours drive through the beautiful countryside to the small Andean communities Tinqui (3900m) the starting point of our trek. In Tinqui, we will meet the local horsemen who will accompany us on our Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain trek. Our first three hours hike to the lunch place will be gradual uphill. Along the route, we will pass by traditional farming communities, group of Alpacas, Llamas and have amazing views of the Ausangate Peak (6370m). After lunch, we continue for another 2 hours to reach our camping site Upis (4400m) where we will have option to enjoy hot spring before dinner.

DAY 2: Upis - Arapa Pass - Puka Cocha

After breakfast, we will continue our hike with a climb to Arapa pass, at 4900m.The ascent will take approximately 3 hours. Along the way, we will have panoramic views of different colored lakes and the majestic Ausangate Glacier and spectacular views of the surrounding snow peaks. After taking, some great photos we will descent for another 3 hours until we get our lunch spot, then it will take us two more hours to our second camp at Puka Cocha (4600m) that is one of the most beautiful campsites close to Ausangate glacier and at bank of the lake.

DAY 3: Puka Cocha - Ananta

We will have early breakfast and then start to hike approximately 3 hours uphill until to get Puka Cocha pass (4600 m). The ascent is relatively steep. On reaching the summit, spectacular views of entire way and the incredible views of Ausangate glacier (6370m) sitting right in from of you. After enjoying the beauty around you and taking some great pictures, we will start to descent through the green valley with alpacas and llamas grazing on the mountain site. As we approach to the camp, we will still have spectacular views of the Surroundings Mountains. After our delicious lunch free afternoon to chill out in the tents.

DAY 4: Ananta - Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain - Cusco

After early breakfast, we will start gradually ascent around one hour to the Ananta pass (4500m). From where we will have the first view of the amazing Rainbow Mountain in the distance. Then we go down through the valley until to reach the final uphill to the Rainbow Mountain (5200m) with views of snowy peaks in the close distance and facing the famous colorful natural Attraction Mountain in Peru. After enjoying views and taking pictures, we will head downhill to the community Llactu(4100 m)where we will be have our last lunch. We will then drive 3hours back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel arriving Cusco around 18:00pm.

  • Transport: Private transportation from Cusco (hotel) to start of the trek. Private transportation from the end of the trek to Cusco.
  • Meals: 03 breakfast, 03 lunches, 03 dinners + daily morning snack. food is includes pancakes, omelets, soup, fresh fruits, chicken,fish,meat,rice pasta and hot drinks including coca leaf tea which is very effective against altitude sickness. Tea time every afternoon tea, coffee, and popcorn. We can also provide vegetarian meals and special diets. Just let us know in advance or during the briefing on the evening before the trekking.
  • Every morning and afternoon warm water to clean yourself up.
  • English speaking professional guide (two Guides for 8 people of over 8 people)
  • Horsemen and horses to carry the tents,food,cooking equipment and your personal equipment such as mattress, sleeping bag and clothing to change. A maximum of 8 Kilos per person. An emergency horse in case someone needs help and is not able to continue walking.
  • Camping equipment: Two people will always share a spacious four people dome igloo tent with plenty of spaces for your backpack. Cooking equipment dining tent kitchen tent, first aid kit including emergency oxygen bottle.
